The Liberal Democrats use Easter Sunday to attack church schools and biblical account of Creation

by CCF Press Release

Speaking on the holiest day of the Christian calendar, Phil Willis MP, the Liberal Democrats' education spokesperson deepened his party's attack on Creationism and faith schools. Phil Willis targeted the Gateshead school where evolution is being taught as theory rather than fact. Mr Willis told the National Union of Teachers Conference: "We must not stand by and see our children become the fodder for the extreme views of religious fundamentalists or their wealthy backers."

Tim Montgomerie, CCF Director, said:

"Mr Willis and the Liberal Democrats are in danger of becoming the real extremists. Their secular ideology is not neutral but is actively hostile to Christian morality. Liberal Democrats oppose faith schools despite the academic success of these schools and their popularity with parents. Liberal Democrats want to scrap Section 28 despite the protection it provides vulnerable schoolchildren. Now they wish to stop Christians asking legitimate questions about the coherence of the theory of evolution.

Many who do not share the Book of Genesis' account of the earth¹s origins are nonetheless honest about the flaws in Darwin's theories. More and more scientific research is confirming the Christian belief in an 'intelligent designer' behind the universe. Britain's schools and teachers should allow children to decide whether evolution or creation most accords with the facts. The Liberal Democrats need to be more tolerant of Christian perspectives."
