David backs local newspaper's campaign
Figures published by the Havant & Waterlooville News on Monday 3rd November reveal that taxi touting is continuing in our community. The News estimate that 400 illegal taxi journeys are made each week in our communities - leaving drivers to pocket about £2,000 a week. Yet at the same time there has only been one conviction in Portsmouth this year.
David Willetts said:
"The police and council do need to work together and make sure the people who do this are caught. If it is such a problem the people breaking the law need to be caught."
"If there were more Hackneys this would not be a problem with the cowboys."*
If you experience anything suspicious about a taxi you have travelled in or seen on the streets - please report it! Make a note of the vehicle's registration plate and call the council licensing teams number 023 9244 6660. Alternatively, contact PC Alan Dabbs, Cosham Traffic Police on 0845 0454545.
